Cornerstone Shaving Kit

Cornerstone is a subscription service, offering high quality shaving items. It works in a great way, by working around you and your needs, focusing on when you'll need the products. They'll remind you five days before shipping out the next box, so you're not left with any little surprises. First time users will also get £10 off their first order and a free personalised razor handle - what a treat!

Ishida at Cornerstone kindly sent me the Cornerstone Shaving Kit for consideration and I have to say, it's stunning. The design of the kit is professional and rather stylish. The kit contains a well built razor, replacement shaving heads, a facial scrub, shave gel and post-shave balm. It has everything you need to get a clean, crisp shave.

Shall we get into it?

Exfoliating is one of the most important steps; it helps align the hairs in the best way, so whilst shaving, you don't get any ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs are caused when the razor glides over the hair strand and it bounces back and then grows back into the skin. An exfoliator before shaving will help avoid that, by standing the hairs up so the razor can catch them and cut them. Exfoliating helps to reduce the appearance of pores by flushing out any dirt and excess oils and will also lift dead skin calls from the surface of the skin, making it look fresh and bright once more.

Cornerstone's exfoliation formula has been developed by dermatologists and made in the UK. They also test this formula on humans, not animals, which is FANTASTIC. It's also made without parabens and alcohol and is vegetarian and vegan.

As with most exfoliators, you pop this on the skin and rinse away before continuing on to the next step, which is the shaving process.

Products to help glide the razor are probably the most important part of shaving. Catching and harming the skin is the last thing you need while giving your face a bit of grooming; it can cause severe redness, razor burn, bumps and ingrown hairs. A good shave gel, lotion or soap is needed. In this instance, Cornerstone provided a shave gel. Their formulae is made from ginger and eucalyptus, which is used thoughtfully to protect the skin. Ginger is also very stimulating, so it helps bring the blood flow back to the skin post-shave, helping that healing process a little more. Their shave gel has essential oils, but is free from parabens and alcohol. It's also vegetarian and vegan friendly.

It suggests to shave after a shower or bath, which I completely agree with. The heat of the water and the steam in the air will help open up the skin and also soften the hair, making it easier to get a clean shave. Their gel isn't a foaming product, it's their to protect from the harshness of the razor blade, so if you're looking for a product which will give you that meringue-like texture, look elsewhere - maybe their shave cream, perhaps?

The handle is made from aluminium, that doesn't offer discomfort when holding. The handle is balanced in such a way that it gives you perfect control. It also comes engraved with your first Cornerstone order, which is a nice touch.

The razor head is made up of 5 sharp blades, placed angled to ensure a reduction of skin irritation. The design of the razor is pretty great, made to move along the contours of the face by having the blades mounted on a flexible head - it also has an Aloe Vera strip, giving an instant application of a very good healing and soothing ingredient.

In the kit Cornerstone also supply an extra five razor heads, so you shouldn't run out anytime soon, if you buy this kit.

Shaving will cause damage to the skin, regardless of how you care for it during the actual shaving. You need to care for it after shaving also, to repair and soothe. The post-shave balm contains mint and honey, two of the most caring ingredients used in skincare. Honey is a wonderful humectant ingredient, meaning it attracts and holds moisture in the skin. Mint is cooling and stimulating; we all know that your skin feeling cool is the most enjoyable part of finishing a shave. Two perfect ingredients in one product, it's pretty great. The balm contains essential oils, but does not contain parabens or alcohol. While it's vegetarian friendly, the use of honey means it is not suitable for vegans.

Overall, the shaving gift set is a fanatic kit and is perfect value for money at £30 including free delivery. The quality of the set is high and you do get a decent amount of product for what you pay. Christmas is fast approaching, so i'd suggest you pick one of these up as soon as possible for that special someone!

And that's all folks! I want to take time once again to thank Ishida at Cornerstone for sending me this wonderful kit to review and enjoy. Now all I need to do is get my hands on one of their leather wash bags, as they're incredibly beautiful
