Are We Close to Equality?

As of Summer, 2014 same sex marriage will be legal in the UK and while that's a great thing, it's also not the end of the road. There's much more to be fought for, especially in the LGBTQ community. But lets say we get 100% equality in the world, in terms of same sex marriage, voting, adoption and trans discrimination, are we then able to say we have true equality?

I went for a long walk the other day and I got to thinking about the term equality and what the world would be like if we were to get to that place where we could marry who we want etc, but then when I thought more into it, I realised that equality is so far out of reach and we've not considered the other battles we need to fix.

In the LGBTQ communities, there's certain groups, which people call "tribes" or "communities" and some people are very strict when it comes to discussing them. There's Twinks, Bears, Chubs, Leather etc..Personally, I can't stand the terms; it is just stupid to want to label yourself like that. Which brings me on to my point for this post. The fight for equality is so strong, but there's such a lack of equality in our own community, more so in the US.

I must stress, this doesn't apply for everyone, I really do stress that. But in some cases, there's a definite divide. The Bears don't want to mix or be involved with the Twinks, the Chubs don't want to be associated with the Bears and so on and so forth. Now I can understand there's certain physical appearances people find more attractive, but this divide goes further than that, it's almost like a battle of who's better, if better can even be used in this sense. Such segregation that there's a clear separation in bars etc. There's gay marriage in sight, but the acceptance of other appearances is so far on the horizon.

As I said before, I don't like the terms or names of these groups and I don't assign one to myself. I've never found myself going for one "type" of guy and the past has proved that and I don't think i'll ever find myself going for a type. I, like most have certain aspects that I find most attractive, but it's not the be all and end all.

I hope that soon we have COMPLETE equality, that includes the destruction of these silly names and communities. In reality, it's just not on now is it?
